“The sound is what ties it all together, it’s what really makes the world come alive”

The importance of sound design

Too often, sound is just an afterthought. Adding music in the last few months, and finishing up the SFX when everything else is already done – that’s the industry standard.

For Manifold Garden, this was never the case. Even before I started work on this game, the sound was already phenomenal. Using concepts like ‘music sentences’, the soundscape for Manifold Garden was carefully thought out, all throughout development.

But it’s also a lot of work. With layers upon layers of polish, the soundscape can always be better, and always more immersive. Maybe the player won’t even notice – not actively, at least. But it works, and it’s worth it.

A new VR project

After the launch of Manifold Garden, and then after years of post-launch support (bugfixes, porting, more bugfixes..), I got an email from William Chyr.

He was thinking about creating a new game, he said. A VR game, but not a port or sequel to Manifold Garden – something that would stand on its own.

I worked on this project from February 2021 until February 2024. But it’s not announced yet so I can’t say more. Stay tuned!
