Game Development for Good
It’s strange to be a game programmer among a team of psychologists, scientific researchers and trained mental health professionals. But when they ask for a skill you can offer, you don’t turn down the opportunity to put it to a good use.
Tend VR is built in Unity. The environments, the interactions, everything is made the same way a game would be made, but Tend is not a game. It’s a full-fledged Cognitive Therapy course based on real, working, psychology, as therapists would apply in the real world.
Every now and then, I hear about how one user loves the breathing ball interaction, or how for someone else, feeding the fish is what keeps them going at the moment. And I’m happy that I brought a different kind of joy to someone’s life for a while.
